Da Vinci Xi Robotic-Assisted Surgery
DaVinci Xi Robotic Surgical System
It’s fair to say that no one looks forward to surgery, but it may sometimes provide your best option for care. If you and your doctor feel that surgery is right for you, you can explore how doctors can perform the necessary surgery.
Traditional open surgery, where a surgeon operates with handheld instruments through a large cut (incision), maybe the first method that comes to mind. However, you could also be a candidate for a less invasive approach requiring a few small cuts, called minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive surgery includes laparoscopic surgery and robotic-assisted surgery.
Intuitive, a pioneer in robotic-assisted surgery and maker of da Vinci surgical systems, was founded in 1995. Today, the company continues to create and refine robotic systems, giving surgeons the added benefits of technology that help extend their capabilities.

Surgeon-Led Minimally Invasive Precision Technology
Where innovation meets precision:
Precision Redefined: Robotic surgery offers unparalleled precision and dexterity, translating the surgeon’s hand movements into minute, controlled actions within your body.
Minimally Invasive Approach: Smaller incisions result in less pain, minimal scarring, and a faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery, allowing patients to get back to their daily lives sooner.
Enhanced Visualization: High-definition 3D visualization allows our expert surgeons to navigate complex anatomy with enhanced clarity, improving the overall surgical experience.
Personalized Care: With robotics, our surgeons can tailor procedures to your unique anatomy, optimizing outcomes and reducing the risk of complications.
Wide Range of Procedures: From urological and gynecological surgeries to complex procedures in various specialties, the technology is adaptable and applicable to a diverse array of medical conditions.
Confidence and Expertise: Over 40 of our skilled surgeons are trained in utilizing da Vinci technology, ensuring that you’re in the hands of professionals who are proficient with this advanced system.
Improved Technology For Physicians, Better Outcomes For Patients
- Lower risk of infection
- Less blood loss
- Less trauma to surrounding healthy tissue
- Less pain
- Smaller scars
- Faster recovery
General Surgery
Conditions of the abdomen and digestive tract
The gynecology specialty covers conditions of the internal female reproductive system, which includes the uterus (womb), ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, and vagina. When your reproductive system develops a problem, it can affect many aspects of your health and quality of life. Gynecologic conditions such as severe pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, abnormal bleeding, pelvic organ prolapse, and cancer are common and may require medical care. When lifestyle changes, medicine, and other options do not ease your symptoms, your doctor may suggest surgery.
Types of Surgery
In the past, surgeons made large incisions in skin and muscle to directly see and work on the area of concern. This is called open surgery. Today doctors still perform open surgery, but they can also perform many gynecologic procedures using minimally invasive laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgery, possibly with da Vinci technology. Both minimally invasive approaches require one or a few small incisions that doctors use to insert surgical equipment and a camera for viewing. In laparoscopic surgery, doctors use special long-handled tools to perform surgery while viewing magnified images from the laparoscope (camera) on a video screen.

Urogynecology
Urologic conditions
The urology specialty covers conditions of the male and female urinary tract system and the male reproductive system. The urinary tract includes the kidneys, bladder, and associated connective tissues and muscles. The male reproductive system encompasses the prostate gland, penis, testicles, and associated connective structures. Conditions that cause problems of these systems include, but are not limited to, enlarged prostate, benign tumors, and cancer and may require medical attention. In the case of cancer or when lifestyle changes, medicine, and other options do not ease symptoms of other conditions, your doctor may suggest surgery.

Robotic-assisted urologic procedures
- Prostatectomy (prostate surgery)
- Partial and Total Nephrectomy (kidney surgery)
- Pyeloplasty (surgery to relieve kidney blockage)
- Cyst Removal (surgery to remove a cyst from the kidney)
- Cystectomy (bladder surgery)
- Ureteral Implantation (fix the tubes that connect the bladder to the kidneys)

Gynecology
Gynecologic conditions
Gynecologic conditions can affect how you feel, how you show up for your family, and how you move through daily life. These conditions involve the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, and vagina. Symptoms such as pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fibroids, endometriosis, or prolapse are common and often treatable. When medicines or lifestyle changes aren’t enough, your doctor may discuss surgical options. Knowing your condition and the choices available can help you decide what feels right for your health and future.
Types of Surgery
Gynecologic surgery was traditionally performed through one large incision so surgeons could see and reach the area that needed treatment. This is called open surgery. While open surgery is still used when needed, many gynecologic procedures can now be performed using minimally invasive surgery, which uses smaller incisions.
Minimally invasive surgery for women includes vaginal surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and da Vinci surgery.
In vaginal surgery, the surgeon operates through an incision in the vagina. In laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon uses long, rigid instruments and a camera inserted through small incisions. The surgeon views the anatomy on a flat video monitor and moves the instruments by hand.
Da Vinci surgery is also performed through small incisions, but the way the surgeon interacts with the instruments is different. With the da Vinci system, the surgeon sits at a console in the operating room and uses hand controls to guide the instruments. The system translates the surgeon’s hand movements to move the instruments inside the body. The surgeon views the anatomy in magnified 3D while operating from the console.
